Le’Veon Bell Drinks The Haterade

  • by

Bell

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin‘s weekly press conference became testy this week. The source of Coach T’s ire was some negativity in the media directed at running back Le’Veon Bell. I thought Tomlin’s protective instincts kicked in because his precious rookie was a highly sensitive young man. Turns out, I was only half-right.

Yesterday, ESPN published a profile of Bell which basically portrays him as the second coming of Black and Gold legend Hines Ward. Like Hines before him, rather than react angrily to perceived slights, Bell actually uses them as motivation. And, if the article is to be believed, poor Le’Veon has been kicked around throughout his life.Read More »Le’Veon Bell Drinks The Haterade

Lawrence Timmons Broke His Hand

Earlier today, I recapped Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin‘s weekly press conference. I neglected to include the part where he cataloged the team’s “laundry list” of injuries. Almost all the injuries were described as minor or “limiting” – with the exception of WR Markus Wheaton who continues to be out – and since Tomlin is full of BS it’s not like he’d tell us if somebody was in danger of missing this Sunday’s game against Oakland anyway. He did reveal one interesting fact, however.

Linebacker Lawrence Timmons broke his hand during the game.Read More »Lawrence Timmons Broke His Hand

Mike Tomlin Press Conference: *Mic Drop*

  • by

Welcome to our weekly recap of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin‘s press conference. Before we begin, something of a minor controversy occurred this week at this normally jovial affair.

As always, the Steelers official website uploaded video of the presser which you can watch by clicking here. If you choose to watch the whole thing instead of reading my much more easily digestible recap, you may notice the video ends rather abruptly. That’s not poor editing by the Steelers geek squad, evidently instead of the normal routine of issuing a last call for questions and thanking the media for their time, Tomlin decided to pull a mic drop.

As you’ll see in my recap, Coach T was perturbed by reporters this week. Which makes me wonder how he’d fare in a city like New York where the media actually question their head coach and aren’t a bunch of pom-pom waving cheerleaders.Read More »Mike Tomlin Press Conference: *Mic Drop*

Isaac Redman Cut By Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers put forth their finest rushing performance in nearly a full season this past Sunday. With rookie Le’Veon Bell leading the way with 93 yards, the team combined for 141 yards on the ground. The last time they rushed for 140+ yards was way back in week 9 of last season against the New York Giants. Amazingly, a single back put up 147 yards all by himself.

That was and always will be the highlight of Isaac Redman‘s NFL career. Read More »Isaac Redman Cut By Steelers

Week 7 Recap: Baby Steps

I’m not sure we can say the Pittsburgh Steelers are all the way back. But they’re  getting there. Yesterday afternoon, the Steelers took a giant step toward digging out of the 0-4 hole that began their season by pulling off a last second victory over the Baltimore Ravens 19-16.

Last week, the Steelers finally broke out of the turnover slump by picking off Geno Smith twice. This week, they finally found a running game. Rookie Le’Veon Bell just missed his first career 100 yard game (93 yards) as five guys combined to pile up 141 yards of rushing offense. Bell averaged 4.9 yards a rush which was particularly impressive when you consider his longest gainer was only 11 yards.

Speaking of impressive, the running game got on track despite the offensive line suffering yet another setback. Marcus Gilbert was injured early on leading to Guy Whimper taking his place at right tackle. Whimper had been used exclusively at guard since coming here but is a tackle by trade so that’s not a huge shock – that they’d rather insert Whimper into a game than Mike Adams is. Adams did see some action when LT Kelvin Beachum was briefly shaken up but it appears he’s buried deep inside Mike Tomlin‘s non-existent doghouse.Read More »Week 7 Recap: Baby Steps

Know Thy Enemy: Baltimore Ravens

Beaky-Bastards

Defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.

Even typing that sentence sends waves of bile regurgitating up through my throat. There has been some talk that with Hines Ward busy running triathlons and Stabby, er, Ray Lewis offering his insight on how to duck murder raps on ESPN while James Harrison and Ed Reed have moved on to greener NFL pastures, the Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers rivalry has lost a bit of it’s luster. Whether not that’s true, the teams still play in the same division. And as long as they face each other twice a year with victory often being the difference between a playoff berth and a long off-season, the games will continue to hold great significance for both fans and players.Read More »Know Thy Enemy: Baltimore Ravens

Tomlin Press Conference: Death Stare

The wait is over! Rejoice! No, I’m not talking about that long anticipated first victory by the Pittsburgh Steelers. I’m not even talking about our long sought after first turnover of the season.

Of course I’m talking about our hotly anticipated analysis of head coach Mike Tomlin‘s weekly press conference. I have to confess, these things are a lot funner to do after a Steelers loss. Which doesn’t mean I’m rooting for them to lose, even if the team is comprised of a bunch of unlikable asshats. It also doesn’t mean Coach T didn’t provide us with a wealth of hilarious quotes.

So read on…and don’t forget to check out Tomlin’s press conference for yourself:Read More »Tomlin Press Conference: Death Stare

Tomlin Bans Idiotic Celebrations

  • by

Or at least one of them, anyway.

Celebration has been the word of the week in Pittsburgh. No, not celebration that the once dominant Pittsburgh Steelers finally won a game. Rather, celebration in reference to the antics of wide receivers Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders. Of the two, Sanders’ flip dive into the end zone was probably the dumber of the two although in his defense at least his came as a result of scoring a touchdown. AB evidently thinks tying his shoelaces is worthy of a pose and ain’t I great? gesture.

Well, Mike Tomlin is putting his foot down on the latter. In his weekly press conference – I’m crushed at work so my eagerly anticipated weekly recap will be up tomorrow morning – one of the local media cheerleaders actually had the balls to ask him about the team’s excessive celebrations. Tomlin revealed he had banned Sanders style end zone dives from this point forward due to “The potential for injury.” Read More »Tomlin Bans Idiotic Celebrations

Levi Brown Is A Lemon

Pittsburgh Steelers car Steeler Nation car

If you listen closely, you can hear Bruce Arians laughing.

Arians’ revenge upon the team that unjustly fired him is now complete in the form of recently acquired left tackle Levi Brown. The Pittsburgh Steelers had high hopes for the former top ten pick, penciling him into their starting line-up before he even stepped foot off the plane from Arizona. So confident were they in their new left tackle that the man he replaced, inept Mike Adams, wasn’t even dressed for Sunday’s game against the Jets.

Naturally, Brown got hurt in pre-game warm-ups and was unable to play.Read More »Levi Brown Is A Lemon

Antonio Brown’s School of Disproportionate Celebration

Antonio Brown Celebrates (1)

I’m not a bandwagon jumper. I was loyal to the Pittsburgh Pirates back when they were in the midst of yet another losing 90+ loss season just like I was loyal to the Penguins in the years B.C. (Before Crosby). Admittedly, the fact they offered Student Rush tickets to us poor college kids may or may not have had something to do with that. Point is, I stuck with those teams because even though they weren’t very good, they were my hometown teams. And I also stuck with them because while they may have not have been talented, they were comprised of decent guys who tried their best.

Well, maybe not the Pens the year they won the Sid Sweepstakes…

Which brings us to the Pittsburgh Steelers. I made the point last year that being bad is one thing, being tough to root for is quite another. Now I have no idea of this year’s team is one the precipice of turning the season around or if they’re destined for yet another miserable playoff-less campaign. What I do know is it’d be a whole lot easier to root for them win or lose if they didn’t employ so many thoroughly detestable characters.

Antonio Brown, come on down.Read More »Antonio Brown’s School of Disproportionate Celebration
