There’s a sight rarer than Todd Haley’s El Camino Comet, the Blood Moon, and a solar eclipse all rolled into one. Yes, the Cleveland Browns can say they are ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the standings. In a bit of scheduled irony, the Browns’ victim last Sunday is this week’s opponent for the Black and Gold. Let’s hope for a similar result because I really don’t think I could live with losing to a team that lost to Cleveland.
The Minnesota Vikings are not a particularly good team. Then again, neither are the Steelers since we’re both 0-3. Complicating matters is the game will be played at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Minny has been overseas since Tuesday while Mike Tomlin and crew decided to hop a red-eye last night in order to arrive in London on Friday morning (their time). Hopefully, this is one strategy which pays off.Read More »Know Thy Enemy: Minnesota Vikings

On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers meet the Minnesota Vikings in London, England in what has become the NFL’s annual version of an “international friendly.” Technically, the Vikings are the home team – the team’s owner agreed to sacrifice one of their eight home games as a combination veiled threat/silent protest over their decrepit stadium – but in reality the Steelers should enjoy the majority of crowd support.
Londoners are used to cheering for Big Ben, after all.
Besides, Steeler Nation extends not only from coast to coast but around the globe. If my google analytics are to be believed, my visitors span the globe from Mexico to China and from Norway to South Africa. Actually, if the Vikes wanted a home game, they probably should’ve played the game in Oslo. Despite the fact good seats are still available, the crowd should be a bunch of Terrible Towel waving hooligans.
Unless they’ve heard of Ryan Clark.Read More »Ryan Clark Not A Fan Of London
Earlier today, I wrote about some unkind words Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had for rookie running back Le’Veon Bell. It looks like the team’s captain isn’t done voicing his opinion. On Tuesday, head coach Mike Tomlin spoke of a meeting he had with guard Ramon Foster where Foster supposedly agreed to step up his leadership role with the young lineman. According to a story on ESPN, it appears Ben wants in on that action, as well.
Truth be told, the offensive line didn’t play all that horribly on Sunday. Their play is still below what you’d expect from a middle first and two second round picks but it isn’t appreciably worse than some of the lines they’ve had in the past. And only the most rabid Roethlisberger apologist would blame them for Ben’s four turnover performance against the Bears. He was careless with the football, end of story.
Anyway, what pearls of wisdom did Big Ben have for his young line?Read More »Big Ben Wants To Coach Offensive Line Now, Too
The Pittsburgh Steelers have high expectations for running back Le’Veon Bell. They clearly hope they’ve finally found their Next Bus. In the meantime, if they need to find their prized rookie, they’ll need to look underneath a bus. That’s where he’s been tossed by none other than starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
On his weekly radio show (which is quickly becoming the source of more hilarity than a Mike Tomlin press conference), Big Ben was asked about Bell’s impending insertion into the starting line-up this Sunday against the Vikings. In the latest example of a Black and Gold team divided, Ben’s response was less enthusiastic. Here’s his full answer:Read More »Ben Roethlisberger Calls Out Le’Veon Bell
Welcome to our weekly analysis of the Mike Tomlin press conference. This week, the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach displays a perky demeanor while eschewing his Word Of The Day calendar for some fancy mathematical equations!
So, without further ado, let’s dive right into this week’s Tomlin press conference:Read More »Tomlin Press Conference: Perking Up
To paraphrase Niemöller’s famous quote:
First the Steelers came for the pool table,
and I didn’t speak out because I didn’t play pool.
Then the Steelers came for the shuffleboard,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t seventy years old.
Then the Steelers came for the ping-pong paddles,
and I didn’t speak out because I didn’t play ping-pong.
Then the Steelers came for me,
and there were no games left to play.Read More »Steelers Vets Tell Youngsters: No Ping Pong For You!
By the time you read this, Mike Tomlin‘s weekly press conference will have finished. I wonder which word Coach T pulled off his Word-A-Day Calendar and decided to hilariously misuse this week? Fear not, as I will have my weekly recap/snarky analysis of his inane comments tomorrow morning. In the meantime, however, there is one bit of Pittsburgh Steelers news we don’t have to wait for his confirmation on.
Rookie running back Le’Veon Bell returned to practice last week and Fox’s Jay Glazer, one of the few NFL “Insiders” with actual inside knowledge, is reporting Bell is expected to suit up this Sunday when the Black and Gold take on the Minnesota Vikings in London.Read More »Le’Veon Bell To Play On Sunday?
Tuning into local sports talk the day after the Pittsburgh Steelers dropped to 0-3 for the first time in 27 years, I expected to hear plenty of complaints. Ben Roethlisberger making like Santa and gift-wrapping touchdowns to our opponents. The running game failing to produce a 100 yard rusher for the 85th straight week. A defense which hasn’t forced a turnover since Dick LeBeau‘s hair was chestnut brown.
And what was one of the burning topics on the minds of yinzers?

During the preseason they just didn’t care. Nothing went right in week one. Last Monday, a laughable running game combined with a porous offensive line to spell doom. So whose turn would it be to crap the bed this week?
Ben Roethlisberger, come on down!
The Pittsburgh Steelers remained winless in 2013 – counting preseason – falling to the Chicago Bears 40-23 on Sunday Night Football. On the positive side, the offense finally showed some signs of life. As expected, the return of Heath Miller opened things up in both the running and passing games. Unfortunately, the Black and Gold found yet another way to lose as they’ve become seemingly allergic to success.
