Bell Tears MCL – Placed on IR

  • by

LeVeon-Bell

It’s official. If the Black and Gold do anything this season, they’re gonna have to do it without one third of the Killer Bs.

Pittsburgh Steelers superstar running back Le’Veon Bell has a torn MCL and has been placed on IR, ending his 2015 season. Chalk another one up for the “NFL Insiders.” When Bell was carted off the field, word was the Steelers were optimistic there was no damage to his ACL. I have no idea how a knee works but amazingly he didn’t damage the ACL at all, which would’ve been awesome if he didn’t shred his MCL.Read More »Bell Tears MCL – Placed on IR

Week 8 Recap: When It Rains, It Pours

Cursed. The Pittsburgh Steelers are f*cking cursed.

Le’Veon Bell suspended the first two games, Martavis Bryant the first four. Bell comes back just in time for Ben Roethlisberger to miss four games with a knee injury. Ben comes back and a little over a quarter later, Bell falls to the ground clutching his knee in agony.

Cursed.

The really sad part is that by every right the Steelers should’ve beaten the Bengals yesterday. Instead, Steelers star running back Le’Veon Bell is lost for the season in team’s 16-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The loss drops the Black and Gold to 4-4 and all but ends any hope of winning the AFC North. Of course, the team has more immediate concerns.Read More »Week 8 Recap: When It Rains, It Pours

Big Ben Returns…But Too Late?

NFL: SEP 11 Bengals at Browns

Barring any unforeseen setback, Ben Roethlisberger is set to return this Sunday. That’s the good news. The bad news is it may be too late for the Pittsburgh Steelers to compete for the AFC North. I always hate to declare a game “must win” before mid-season but this weekend’s match-up with the Cincinnati Bengals is about as must win as it gets.

The Bengals are currently one of a half dozen undefeated teams littering the NFL. This season has been a weird one as far as parity goes. In recent years, there wasn’t a huge clear cut gap between the haves and have nots. This year there seems to be a huge gulf between the teams on the top tier and the perennial bottom feeders. Then again, even the so called “elite” teams come with their share of warts.Read More »Big Ben Returns…But Too Late?

Week 7 Recap: Doomsday For Landry

Even Cinderella had to be home by midnight. The clock struck twelve yesterday for the Pittsburgh Steelers, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-13 in quarterback Landry Jones first NFL start. Some of you might think this metaphor is directed at Jones who a week after playing nearly flawlessly committed three costly turnovers. It isn’t.

Nope, the coach that turned back into the pumpkin yesterday was the Steelers defense. Going into the year, nobody wondered how good they could be but rather if they could not be bad enough for the offense to overcome. Through the first six weeks they were a pleasant surprise, if not winning games then certainly being more of a help than a hindrance. Yesterday, that all went bye-bye.Read More »Week 7 Recap: Doomsday For Landry

Ah, the classic trap game. Hard believe the Pittsburgh Steelers would even have a trap game considering the amount of adversity they’ve had to weather thus far. But this week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs almost certainly falls into that category. A 4-2 team coming off two straight big wins facing a 1-5 bottom dweller with a huge division showdown looming on the horizon has all the makings of a trap.

Especially when you don’t know who your quarterback is going to be. Ben Roethlisberger has returned to practice albeit on a limited basis. Michael Vick allegedly has a “hamstring sprain” which is an interesting way to phrase “He blows and we don’t wanna play him.” Mike Tomlin won’t commit to Big Ben so all signs point to Landry Jones making his first career start.Read More »Know Thy Enemy: Kansas City Chiefs

Beachum Out For Season, Steelers Tab Ranger

Another week, another devastating injury for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I used to think Mike Tomlin‘s “Next Man Up” philosophy was a bunch of rah-rah b.s. As much criticism I send his way, I have to give Tomlin credit for never letting adversity rock the ship. Whether I believe it or not, the players seem to wholeheartedly embrace the idea Next Man Up no matter who they’re being asked to replace.

This past Sunday, the Steelers lost left tackle Kelvin Beachum for the season to a torn ACL. It was an ugly picture with his knee bending in a way a knee should not bend. Pretty much the second he left the field I figured he was done for. Only Ben Roethlisberger seems to be gifted with a Wolverine-like healing factor.Read More »Beachum Out For Season, Steelers Tab Ranger

Week 6 Recap: A Hero Named Landry

It was inevitable. When the Pittsburgh Steelers took Landry Jones in the fourth round of the draft three years ago, I noted the irony of the Black and Gold selecting a guy named after the legendary head coach of one of our greatest rivals. Despite the fact he played horrifically in every preseason since, I suppose it was fated he’d one day come to our rescue. Yes, Steeler Nation has a new hero, a hero named Landry.

The Steelers moved to 4-2 on the season by defeating the Arizona Cardinals 25-13. It only took three quarterbacks and four kickers to finally arrive at this point. Michael Vick once again started and once again looked atrocious. The announcers keep saying he doesn’t understand the offense which is probably a fair point to some extent but he misses so many open receivers his ineffectiveness can’t be blamed totally on that.Read More »Week 6 Recap: A Hero Named Landry

Sorry for the lack of posting this week. I’ve been a bit under the weather but I’m making a comeback. Ben Roethlisberger would love to make a comeback of his own this week after returning to practice the past few days. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be in the Cards.

Thank you, I’ll be here all week. Try the veal.

Ben would surely love to play this week, not only to help the Pittsburgh Steelers try and keep pace with the undefeated Bengals but because our opponents are the Arizona Cardinals. The Cards are coached by old friend Bruce Arians, our offensive coordinator for five seasons until he “retired” (for about 48 hours). Arians has long been hailed as Ben’s best friend in football. In fact, despite overseeing some pretty good offenses – including our first 4,000 yard passer, 1,000 yard rusher, and 1,000 yard receiver in the same season – Arians retired was fired primarily because the team felt he was too chummy with his quarterback.Read More »Know Thy Enemy: Arizona Cardinals

Week 5 Recap: Saved By The Bell

Yeah, I’m late again. I’m sure Steeler Nation saw Monday Night Football. And if you didn’t, well, I feel sorry for you. What happened last night will be remembered for a long long time.

Not since the Charlie Batch Game have the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off such a thrilling last second victory. Except last night, the Steelers defeated the San Diego Chargers on a last second touchdown from Le’Veon Bell. What’s more, if Bell had been stopped short, the game would’ve been over and the Steelers would’ve lost. There was literally no time left.

Credit Mike Tomlin and Todd Haley for having balls the size of California’s state debt.Read More »Week 5 Recap: Saved By The Bell

Know Thy Enemy: San Diego Chargers

Another week, another prime time game for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This week’s opponent is the San Diego Chargers. Ordinarily, the storyline for this game would be Philip Rivers and how he stacks up with Ben Roethlisberger, both products of the storied QB Class of ’04. However, with Ben sidelined and Rivers coming off a year where his team failed to make the playoffs the game becomes less about storylines and more about two teams desperate to keep their head above water.

Both teams currently sit at 2-2 on the season. Both teams are coming off less than inspiring outings. The Steelers, of course, lost an overtime heartbreaker to Baltimore that easily could’ve been a win had they had a halfway decent kicker. The Chargers beat the Cleveland Browns last week but the fact it was a 30-27 shoot out has to be a cause for concern.Read More »Know Thy Enemy: San Diego Chargers
