Another off-season, another retirement.

In what has sadly become a yearly tradition, Steeler Nation has lost yet another long-time fan favorite. Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller announced his retirement yesterday, ending an 11 year career spent entirely in the Black and Gold. Miller was a first round pick in 2005, winning a Super Bowl in his rookie year. He’d add another ring along with two trips to the Pro Bowl although he may be most remembered for the “Heeeaatth!” call which would echo from the crowd whenever he made a catch, usually regardless of whether the Steelers were home or on the road.Read More »Heeaatthh!!

Division Playoff Recap: The One That Got Away

When it comes to crushing losses, there are different kinds of disappointment. There are games where your team is clearly overmatched yet fight valiantly, maybe even offer a few glimmers of hope before ultimately falling to the superior team. And then there are the games where they play well enough to win but make just enough mistakes to leave the door open a crack and the other team eventually takes advantage to pull out a win. That one is by far the worst.

It also best describes the Pittsburgh Steelers season ending 23-16 loss to the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.Read More »Division Playoff Recap: The One That Got Away

Know Thy Enemy: Denver Broncos

In honor of the quarterbacks playing Sunday, it’d be a shame if this game wasn’t sponsored by Campbell’s.

The Pittsburgh Steelers limp into Mile High Stadium to face the top seeded Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. The Broncos have been something of a quiet rival for the Black and Gold over the years. While playoff games between AFC North teams are naturally heated affairs, we’ve seen the Patriots as our post-season nemesis over the years. In reality, the Broncos are right there with them.Read More »Know Thy Enemy: Denver Broncos

Should Michael Vick Suit Up For Steelers?

What’s left of the Pittsburgh Steelers practiced on Wednesday. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was obviously not among them as he continues to nurse an injured throwing shoulder. Ben is expected to give it a go in the Divisional Playoff against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Reports are his availability will only be limited by his pain tolerance – and perhaps the effectiveness of whatever painkilling injections he takes prior to kick off.

In Ben’s absence, the offense is being run by Landry Jones. Jones assumed the role of back up this season after coming off the bench to lead the Steelers to a win against the Arizona Cardinals. He followed that with a solid if unspectacular performance in a loss against the Chiefs. Jones was supposed to start a couple weeks later in Cleveland but was hurt on the opening drive, allowing Ben to enter as the “emergency back up” and proceed to torch the hapless Browns for 379 yards and 3 TDs. Big Ben Has Torn Ligaments, Brown Is “Hopeful”

When Ben Roethlisberger returned to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to a game winning drive against the Cincinnati Bengals, it was thought he had some sort of sprain to his throwing shoulder but no significant damage. Well, on his weekly radio show, Ben now says he did indeed tear some ligaments in addition to spraining his AC joint (basically your shoulder socket). While that sounds dire, he claims to be fine reaching back to throw with all the pain coming during the follow-through. Where that leaves him for Sunday’s Divisional Round game against the Denver Broncos is anyone’s guess.Read More »Big Ben Has Torn Ligaments, Brown Is “Hopeful”

Burfict Suspended 3 Games, Fines For Steelers Upcoming

In the wake of Saturday night’s Wild Card fiasco, the NFL has moved swiftly to suspend Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict for 3 games at the start of next season. His personal foul cheapshot on Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was evidently the final straw in a pattern of reckless behavior. It goes without saying, much of said behavior has been directed towards the Steelers. Nice to see the NFL cares so much about the concussion crisis they let one of their players run around trying to hurt people for half a season before they do anything about it.Read More »Burfict Suspended 3 Games, Fines For Steelers Upcoming

Wild Card Recap: Steelers Win Bloodbath

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 18-16 in an absolute bloodbath on Wild Card weekend. What for three quarters was a dull and frankly pretty forgettable playoff game will be remembered for a long time because of what happened in the fourth quarter. In the meantime, the Steelers-Bengals rivalry looks to have eclipsed Steelers-Ravens when it comes to straight out hatred.Read More »Wild Card Recap: Steelers Win Bloodbath

It just wouldn’t be the playoffs without a good old fashioned AFC North slobberknocker.

On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers face the Cincinnati Bengals in the rubber match in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs. As with seemingly every season, the post season will once again feature a third game between AFC North rivals. And, as usual, the game promises to be a heated affair. The last time we played, Roger Goodell‘s piggybank was overflowing with $150,000 in total fines.Read More »Know Thy Enemy: Cincinnati Bengals

Ben Says Bryant Needs To Man Up

If the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to do anything in the NFL Playoffs, it’ll be up to their offense. Defensively, they’re average at best. What makes them a threat is an explosive offense that can literally put up points at the drop of a hat. At least, it could until about three weeks ago.

The Steelers faced some of the best defenses in the league this year. They put up 30+ points against the Seahawks, Bengals, and Broncos. The past two weeks they’ve faced two of the worst defenses in football and could only manage 20 and 28 respectively. And the 28 should come with an asterisk because it was aided by a pair of fumble recoveries that set the offense up deep inside the red zone.Read More »Ben Says Bryant Needs To Man Up

In the run up to Saturday’s playoff rubber match between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals, two key injuries that will bear watching. First is the ankle injury suffered last Sunday by Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams. Second is the broken thumb that cost Bengals starting quarterback Andy Dalton the last month of the season. Either one could very well tip the balance between these two closely matched teams.Read More »Dalton’s Thumb and DeAngelo’s Ankle
