Heath Miller To Miss First Month Of Season?

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t played a single meaningful game this season and we’re already deeply concerned about their injury situation. To review, the Black and Gold have suffered a rash of injuries that has decimated depth to at secondary, running back, and tight end.  The good news, that is if you believe the updates given out by incorrigible liar Mike Tomlin, is that many of those players will be back before long.

One who may not be is Heath Miller.Read More »Heath Miller To Miss First Month Of Season?

Steelers Second Preseason Game Worse Than The First

Keep repeating: “It’s only the preseason. It’s only the preseason.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers played their second preseason game last night, losing to the Washington Redskins 24-13. The final score isn’t as important as how the team performed. In their first preseason game, the Black and Gold looked sloppy and undisciplined. If nothing else, I was hoping to see the team’s level of play improve across the board.

Talk about one step forward, two steps back. Where to begin with last night’s debacle?Read More »Steelers Second Preseason Game Worse Than The First

Steelers Offensive Line Needs To Step Up Tonight

Tonight the Pittsburgh Steelers face the Washington Redskins in preseason game number two. Once again, those members of Steeler Nation living outside of the greatest city in the US of A will have an opportunity to watch the game live on ESPN. If there is a just and merciful God, Chris Berman will not be on the call. Leave it to the Four Letter to actually make me long for the unholy pairing of Bob Pompeani and Edmund Nelson.

There’s really not much to preview before tonight’s game. Le’Veon Bell will likely be a game-time decision. Other than that, we’ll probably see the starters play a little longer than we did last week. The first cut down to a 75 man roster doesn’t happen until after the third game so we’ll still see plenty of future used car salesmen in the second half. If nothing else, it’ll give them plenty of time to talk about Landry Jones.Read More »Steelers Offensive Line Needs To Step Up Tonight

Bell, Allen “Marching” Towards A Return

Welcome back to Le’Veon Bell Week here at ToteStillers! When we last met, the Black and Gold’s rookie sensation had yet to play in an actual game due to a bothersome knee injury. An injury Bell exacerbated yesterday during practice when he fell into a pile and came up (after several minutes lying on the turf) limping. Only a few minutes earlier, co-starter Isaac Redman also left the field after getting KTFO by Larry Foote.

Meanwhile, running back isn’t the only position to get struck by the injury bug. Projected starting cornerback Cortez Allen had his knee scoped a couple weeks back. Willie Gay started in his place last Saturday and he wasted no time in showing why Allen is the expected starter by letting Victor Cruz blow right by him on an inside seam route for an easy TD.

So what’s the latest on the Pittsburgh Steelers injured players? Take it away, Coach  T:Read More »Bell, Allen “Marching” Towards A Return

Tough Day For Steelers Running Backs

Being a sports fan in the age of Twitter is a double-edged sword. On the on hand, the immediacy gives you a chance to commiserate on every blown call or missed opportunity like your watching the game at the world’s biggest Buffalo Wild Wings (minus the cute waitresses). The drawback to Twitter is when something bad happens, word spreads fast. And true to our nature as Pittsburgh sports fans, we tend to take bad news with an extra helping of doom and gloom.

As I was tweeting away during yesterday’s excruciating loss by the Pittsburgh Pirates, my antenna went up when I saw news about an injury at Steelers practice. Nominal starting running back Isaac Redman went down with some sort of injury. Okay, bad news but nothing to get too upset about. Not five minutes later another alert flashed across my iPhone – rookie Le’Veon Bell was also down and he wasn’t getting up. Read More »Tough Day For Steelers Running Backs

Bell Makes Club From Tub

Well, this explains a lot…

The battle to be named featured running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers was set to be one of the more heated competitions of this year’s training camp. The smart money figured it to be a two horse race between rookie Le’Veon Bell and fourth year man Jonathan Dwyer. Naturally, the team threw us all a curve during Saturday’s preseason opener when diminutive scatback LaRod Stephens-Howling got the bulk of the carries. Steelers Camp: A Love Story

  • by

loonapix_13763804211195230949

Over the off-season, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown made news when he told ESPN that last year’s team featured a fractured locker room. Hines Ward, who wasn’t even with the team, echoed that opinion. I have no doubt last year’s team wasn’t overflowing with happy shiny people. Losing does that to you.

Well, Ryan Clark and safety partner Troy Polamalu are here to tell you this year’s Steelers are different. This year’s training camp should’ve been held in Woodstock, New York rather than Latrobe, Pennsylvania because it has been nothing but one great big lovefest.Read More »Steelers Camp: A Love Story

Plax, Spaeth Undergo Surgery

Here come the injuries…

After a blissfully quiet start to training camp, the Pittsburgh Steelers have joined the NFL wide injury parade. In the aftermath of the team’s first preseason game on Saturday, ultra-secretive head coach Mike Tomlin revealed that tight end Matt Spaeth underwent surgery for his foot injury. Yesterday, wide receiver Plaxico Burress also went under the knife, undergoing surgery for the torn rotator cuff he suffered during practice.Read More »Plax, Spaeth Undergo Surgery

Thoughts On Steelers First Preseason Game

  • by

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the New York Giants 18-13 in Saturday night’s preseason debut. I note the score because I love being on Twitter during these meaningless games and watching Steeler Nation freak out over such minute details. I guess such passion even for games featuring a bunch of guys who’ll be selling car insurance two weeks from now goes hand in hand with having the best fan base in all of football. Remember, people, the Detroit Lions went undefeated in the preseason before taking an O-fer the entire regular season.

With that in mind, there were some interesting storylines coming out of the game:Read More »Thoughts On Steelers First Preseason Game

Steelers Kick Off Preseason Tonight

The Pittsburgh Steelers kick off their preseason against the New York Giants tonight. For those of you outside of the Steel City who are just dying to see undrafted free agents pretend to be pro ball players for a couple halves before embarking on a career selling used cars, the game will be airing on NFL Network. The red hot Pirates are in Colorado so when every player of consequence comes out by about 8:30, I’ll probably be switching the channel along with every other bandwagon jumping yinzer.
